The ICC Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup is an international cricket competition that is organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The inaugural edition of the tournament was held in January 2023 in South Africa. It was initially planned for 2021 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was delayed. The tournament is played in the T20 format and it is a significant milestone in women's cricket, offering young players the chance to showcase their talents on a global stage.
Following its successful launch, the 2025 edition was held in Malaysia. The competition featured 16 teams, divided into four groups, with the top three teams from each group advancing to the Super Six round. After the Super Six, the top two teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals. This format ensures a competitive environment for rising stars in the sport. The third edition is set to take place in 2027.
In the 2025 final, India maintained their dominant form and they retained the title they won in 2023. India defeated South Africa by nine wickets in a one-sided final in Kuala Lumpur. India’s bowlers, led by Gongadi Trisha’s brilliant 3/15, restricted South Africa to a mere 82 runs. Aayushi Shukla also delivered an exceptional performance with 2/9, including two maiden overs.
India made quick work of the chase, with Trisha Gongadi playing a match-winning knock of 44* off 33 balls. Alongside her, Sanika Chalke contributed 26* off 22 balls, leading India to a comfortable victory with more than eight overs to spare.
South Africa, who had been unbeaten until the final, won the toss and chose to bat but struggled against India’s relentless bowling attack. Despite a few resistance efforts, including a 30-run partnership between Mieke van Voorst and Fay Cowling, they were bowled out easily. India, on the other hand, showcased a solid chase.
A historic two-peat 🏆🏆
