Nafe Singh Rathee, the president of the Indian National Lok Dal and a former MLA from Bahadurgarh was killed. While he was travelling in Jhajjar's Bahadurgarh in his SUV, the politician was shot dead by assailants.
Not only Nafe Singh, another party worker was also travelling with him and lost his life. On the other hand, three private gunmen who were actually hired by Nafe Singh Rathee were injured badly in the attack too.
Nafe Singh Rathee
A member of the 9th and 10th Haryana Legislative Assembly from the constituency of Bahadurgarh, Nafe Singh Rathee was actually a Chairman of Bahadurgarh Municipal Council as well.
The very first seat in the Haryana Legislative Assembly was won by Nafe Singh Rathee in the year 1996 on the INLD ticket. Nafe won another term as well. Later, Nafe Singh shifted to BJP. In the year 2018, however, Nafe Singh left the party and chose to contest in the elections as an independent candidate.
Legal allegations
Nafe Singh was accused in the case of suicide of the son of Ram Rathi, former BJP Minister. According to Jagdish Rathi's family, Nafe Singh used to harass him in a real estate matter.
Death threats
Nafe Singh Rathee, 70, also faced several death threats. Nafe Singh made numerous appeals to the government demanding for police protection.
In a statement, Abhay Chautala said that "the two-time MLA, who is our state unit chief, was not provided with security. In writing, representations had been made to senior police officers and state home minister that he was facing threats and should be provided with security."
The attack of Nafe Singh Rathee took place only a few weeks before the Lok Sabha elections. Many criticize the attack by saying that it was a failure of the government of Haryana. The opposition party leaders strongly criticized the attack on the politician.
Sushil Gupta, the Aam Aadmi Party exclaimed that the "rule of law has ended in Haryana and jungle raj prevails". Bhupindeer Singh Hooda, the Senior Congress leader also criticized the law and order of he state.
