The Asia Cup is a premier cricket tournament in Asia. It features top teams like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The tournament alternates between One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 (T20) formats, aligning with upcoming ICC events.
From 2025 to 2031, the Asia Cup will be hosted by different nations. India will host the 2025 edition in the T20 format, marking its first time hosting since 1990/91.
Bangladesh is set to host the 2027 tournament in the ODI format. Pakistan will take the turn in 2029 with a T20 format, and Sri Lanka will host the 2031 edition in the ODI format.
The 2025 Asia Cup in India will feature six teams competing in the T20 format. This edition will serve as a precursor to the 2026 T20 World Cup, also scheduled in India. The tournament will include 13 matches, following the format used in previous editions.
These upcoming tournaments promise exciting cricketing action across Asia.
New Update: Following the India-Pakistan tensions, the BCCI has decided to withdraw from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events for now. The board has informed ACC of its decision to withdraw from the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Sri Lanka next month and from the biennial Men’s Asia Cup in September.

Asia Cup Host Nations from 2025 to 2031
India was initially announced as the host for the 2025 Asia Cup. However, recent reports indicate that the tournament may be relocated to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) or Sri Lanka. This potential change is due to ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan, which have affected cricketing events in the past.
For example, during the recent Champions Trophy, India refused to play matches in Pakistan, leading to games being held in Dubai instead. As a result, the 2025 Asia Cup might also be moved to a neutral venue like the UAE or Sri Lanka to ensure smooth participation from all teams.
Year | Format | Host Country | Teams |
2025 | T20I | India (not confirmed) | 6 |
2027 | ODI | Bangladesh | 6 |
2029 | T20I | Pakistan | TBA |
2031 | ODI | Sri Lanka | TBA |
The Asia Cup will feature six teams in its upcoming edition. The five full members of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC)—Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka—automatically qualify for the tournament.
They will be joined by the United Arab Emirates, which secured their spot by winning the 2024 ACC Men's Premier Cup. This balanced mix of top Asian cricket teams will compete for the prestigious title in the tournament's next edition, which promises thrilling encounters.

The Asia Cup tournament will follow a familiar format, with six teams divided into two groups of three. After the group stage, the top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Four stage, where they will compete in a single round-robin format.
The two best-performing teams in this stage will face off in the final to determine the Asia Cup champion. This structure ensures a balanced competition leading up to the title clash.
