Britishers gave the name
The name of Mall Road in hill stations was not given by Indians but by the British. This concept was brought to India by British officers. They often used to visit these hill stations for recreation apart from governance.
Mall Road was build for convenience
When the plains of India were very hot, the British used to move to these cold hill stations of India with their families. They also needed a systematic place to live comfortably with their families, for which Mall Road was built.
This is how Mall Road got its name
On one side of this road located in the hill station, British officers lived with their wives and children. On the other side, military personnel lived alone. Due to this, it was named Married Accommodation And Living Line (MALL Road).
Facilities were arranged on the roadside
Along with living on this Mall Road, the British opened all kinds of shops, restaurants, and hotels for their needs so that they could get all the facilities on a single road. Their houses were also present on this road, which have been converted into government offices, hotels, and big restaurants in today's time.
