IIT Kharagpur will be conducting the GAT 2022 examinations next year. As per reports, in a meeting of the National Coordination Board conducted IIT Bombay officially handed over the GATE duties to IIT Kharagpur for the examination to be conducted next year.
Two new papers to be included
The National Coordination Board also decided on including two new papers for the GATE 2022 examinations. With the two new papers, the total number of subjects has come to 29 for the students appearing for the GATE examinations. As per reports, the GATE 2022 committee is also planning to increase the number of exam centres as the number of students appearing for the GATE exams is also increasing every year.
IIT Bombay while handing over the responsibility of conducting the GATE 2022 examinations to IIT Kharagpur said that the institute has handed over the responsibility of organizing GATE 2022 to IIT Kharagpur after successfully completing the GATE 2021 exams on schedule in spite of the pandemic. The GATE examinations are conducted in 8 zones in India jointly by 7 participating IITs, IISc among which one is the organizing institute on a rotational basis.
In the meeting conducted it was decided to include Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering as one of the papers along with Geomatics Engineering as another paper for the GATE 2022 exams. For the GATE 2021 exams, IIT Bombay introduced two new papers - Humanities and Environmental Science.
Committee to be set for GATE 2022
The National Coordination Board has recommended setting up a committee for GATE 2022 to explore more exam centres in smaller towns to conduct the exams. Students are also allowed to seek the GAT scorecards for only 3 years. The scorecards for the entrance test will be available on the official website until June 30, 2021.
GATE entrance examinations are conducted for the admissions to postgraduate programmes offered in Engineering or Science with scholarship and Assistantship from the Ministry of Education.
