IIT Madras declared 'Most Innovative Institute of The Year' by Confederation of Indian industry

IIT Madras declared as the ‘Most Innovative Institute of the Year by the Confederation of Indian industry for the disruptive innovations. The declaration was made during the DST-CII Technology Summit conducted online. Check details here.

Indian Institute of Technology Madras has been declared as the ‘Most Innovative Institute of the Year for the disruptive innovations done by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) during the virtual DST-CII Technology Summit conducted by the Department of Science and Technology. IIT Madras was acknowledged for three of its projects which include VITALSENS platform for wearable health monitoring, Arise - standing wheelchair, and Shakti- indigenous microprocessor.

Professor Ravindra Gettu, Dean of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research, IIT Madras while highlighting the planning for incubators stated that the institute is constantly focusing on making innovations employable by the domestic industry by provisioning global level knowhow and also fostering academic-industry collaboration.

Professor Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, while delivering the keynote address to the event stated that more incubators and startups have come in the last six years compared to the previous 60 years. He further added that the government and industry have realized that disruption to the status quo can be beneficial and awards like this also help in highlighting the innovations in the institute.

Previously, IIT Madras has been declared as the Top innovative Institution in the country at the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) 2019-20. IIT Madras has also developed an incubation cell that hosts multiple incubators to promote students to invent using the latest technologies under the guidance of world-renowned professionals. The institution has also recently launched new products developed in incubation startups including PURE EV, CSIR-CERCI working on Indigenous Battery Technology.
