The administration of Jammu and Kashmir has decided to conduct at least two health checkups. An official stated that the health checkups will be free and will be conducted twice a year for the school children in the union territory.
The authorities said that during a review meeting of the school education department were directed by the Lieutenant Governor Girish Chander Murmu to conduct the health checkups and also provide health cards to the school children here.
The review meeting has the attendance of Sarita Chouhan, Commissioner/Secretary, School Education Department along with other senior officials. Lieutenant Governor also suggested that the parents must be present during the health checkups so that they will also know about the health condition of their children.
The governor also issued orders to the concerned official to prepare a calendar for the health checkups in consultation with the health department.
The school education department during the review meeting was also directed to organize the first health checkup drive in December 2019 in the schools under the summer zone and in March 2020 in the schools that fall under the winter zone.
It has also been mentioned that the Lieutenant Governor also has suggested regular training for teachers in the union territory in order to improve the education quality. The Lt. Governor has also directed the school education department to make sure that drinking water is available in all the schools by 31st December 2019 and also the survey of science and computer laboratories in the schools must be completed within the next 15 days.
The Lt. Governor has also asked the officials to fill up all the vacancies in the department at the earliest along with emphasizing the enhancing the focus on the schools which have an enrolment ratio of less than 25 percent.
