NEET PG Counselling 2021: As per the updates, the Supreme Court will resume hearing on EWS, OBC reservation regarding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test postgraduate (NEET PG 2021) counselling case tomorrow. The Supreme Court agreed to hear NEET PG Counselling dates delay case today, 5th January 2022, after the Centre on Monday requested the top court to schedule a hearing in a matter related to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota, citing "some urgency". The matter was earlier listed for hearing on 6th January.
The apex court is expected to deliver the final judgement which will put to rest one of the most key matters as far as medical admissions in the country is concerned. The case is being heard by a Special Bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud. Their judgement today will clear the decks and pave the way ahead for resumption of NEET PG Counselling 2021 which have been put on hold for nearly 4 months now due to the legal challenge.
Centre Sticks to Rs 8 Lakh Criteria
Earlier on 31st December, the Central Government decided to reiterate its stand regarding the eligibility criteria for EWS Quota reservation for PG medical admissions. In an affidavit filed before the apex court, the Central Government noted that the expert committee constituted to look into the matter has recommended using the existing criteria of Rs 8 lakh annual income limit for determination of 10 per cent EWS reservation for the on-going admissions to the NEET postgraduate courses. The affidavit further notes that the Rs 8 Lakh limit will be implemented for this admission cycle only and from next session, revised criteria suggested by the Committee may be adopted.
CJI agrees for Early Hearing
The Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had sought early hearing on the matter of NEET PG Admission 2022 with regards to OBC and EWS Quota. Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta appearing for Centre said that the resident doctors are rightly concerned as admissions to PG courses have been stalled pending hearing before a 3-J bench. The Chief Justice of India NV Ramana on Tuesday agreed to post EWS Quota matter for early hearing considering the central government’s plea. The case was originally listed to be heard on 6th January 2022.
