NEET 2020 Latest News: Supreme Court of India has declined to entertain plea seeking further postponement of NEET medical entrance exam which was filed today. The apex court note that the plea regarding the medical entrance exam cannot be entertained as the review petition for the same had already been dismissed earlier. The petition seeking postponement of NEET 2020 exam as well as increase in the number of exam centres and holding of exams in scattered manner over a period of 5-8 days, was dismissed by a bench led by Justice Ashok Bhushan on Wednesday. The bench also noted that considering that JEE Main 2020 exam was already over without any major hiccups, the court has told petitioner that the National Testing Agency (NTA) will take all necessary steps for conducting the NEET exam amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier, the apex court had also rejected plea seeking postponement of JEE Main 2020 and NEET 2020 on 17 August 2020 and also rejected to entertain the review petition filed by 6 Ministers from Opposition ruled states on 4th Sept 2020.
More Exam Centres, Exams on Multiple Days
According to the details shared by Adv. Alakh Alok Srivastava on his twitter handle, he is working along with a Respected Senior Advocate, who will appear in the Supreme Court seeking relief for medical aspirants. Along with postponement, the fresh plea requests for a staggered examination over 5 – 6 days, much like the JEE Main examination. The petition also seeks directions from court to the NTA for setting up additional examination centres across the country.
Demand for Scattered Examination Gains Momentum
Following the successful conduct of the JEE Main 2020 exam from 1st to 6th Sept, the demand to hold NEET 2020 exam also in similar format has gained momentum. In total around 9 lakh candidates had appeared for JEE Main 2020 engineering entrance exam. This ensured social distancing and other guidelines are followed properly. For NEET 2020, around 15.67 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the exam on the same day i.e. on 13th Sept 2020. This puts a lot of strain on logistics and exam organizers to ensure social distancing among the students. The fresh plea being filed in the Supreme Court takes these factors into account and demands that exam to be held in scattered manner.
