No Change for NEET MDS: Supreme Court Leaves Internship Deadline to Centre

NEET MDS 2024 Postponement: The Supreme Court heard the plea seeking postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test- Master of Dental Surgery (NEET MDS) today: February 21, 2024. In the hearing, the court denied issuing any order on the extension of the internship cut-off date. 

SC stated that the Union Government is more suited to take a call on this issue. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, alongside Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, presided over the case and focused on the role of the union government in taking up the matter. 

"We direct that the representation be dealt with expeditiously and preferably within a period of one week from the date of this matter. We clarify that we have not expressed any opinion, and it will be open to the union government to take a call," the bench said.

NEET MDS 2024 Aspirants Still Urging Postponement from NMC, Health Ministry

Candidates previously submitted a petition requesting the Supreme Court to make a ruling on the NEET MDS 2024 postponement to July (currently scheduled on March 18, 2024) and extend the internship cut-off date. Despite the pending case, NBEMS closed the NEET MDS registration 2024 window on February 19, 2024.

Meanwhile, NEET MDS 2024 aspirants are still raising their voices and urging the NMS, Union Health Minister Mansukh L. Mandaviya, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to defer the exam and the internship cut-off date.

Why Are Aspirants Demanding NEET MDS 2024 Postponement?

• A large number of candidates will be ineligible for appearing in NEET MDS 2024 since their internship will be finished later than the deadline set by NMC. Around 25,000 students will be adversely impacted by this.
• Aspirants also highlighted the discrimination against the NEET MDS 2024 candidates since they were information about the modification in exam date just 2 months before while NEET PG 2024 aspirants got this information 6 months before.
