New National Education Policy to be implemented by 2022, confirms PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged all the students, teachers, parents, NGOs and government authorities to come together to ensure the National Education Policy is implemented by 2022.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged all the students, teachers, parents, NGOs, and government authorities to come together to ensure the National Education Policy is implemented by 2022. The Prime Minister was speaking at a virtual conclave on ‘School Education in the 21st Century’ where he stated that the NEP has sown the seed for a new India. He further added that it is not the end but the beginning and the students, parents, teachers need to ensure that the implementation of the new National Education Policy is also taken up effectively. 

NEP will be implemented based on suggestions

He also stated that the NEP 2020 is a way of fulfilling the new aspirations and new hopes of a new India which needs to be implemented effectively across the country and needs to be done together. Just like drafting the new National Education Policy, suggestions will also be taken from all the stakeholders for implementing the NEP. The Prime Minister also added that over 15 lakh suggestions were received from teachers on the implementation of NEP at the mygov portal. 

NEP to prepare the youth of the country

The National Education Policy will also prepare the youth in the country to make them further ready. He also elaborated that the NEP is designed to reduce the syllabus and focus more on the fundamental learnings. He stated that the new NEP will take India from its mark oriented to learning-oriented education and to ensure that a new curriculum will be adopted across the nation which will ensure an integrated,  interdisciplinary, fun-based learning experience for students. 

New NEP curriculum Structure

According to the new NEP the new curriculum structure will change from 10+2 to 5+3+4 curriculum structure. The new NEP will not have any watertight disciplines, and the students will also be free to choose any subject they want. 

The Prime Minister also added that one of the major reasons behind the dropout ration is that the students are not given the freedom to choose their own subjects which will change with the implementation of the new NEP. The focus will also be laid on developing critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, curiosity, communication skills in the students.

Implementation teaching in Mother tongue

With regard to the debate on teaching the children in the native tongue which has been suggested under the NEP, the Prime Minister stated that focusing on the mother tongue will not stop children from learning any international language and the students are free to learn global languages including English but will also learn local Indian languages. The PM added that the students learn better if they are taught in the language they speak in. 

The PM also added that parents in rural areas are unable to connect with the students in the academic aspects as the language creates a divide between them and efforts need to be made to teach the students in the language they speak at home until class 5 which will increase the fundamental education base.
