RTE Act 2009
The Right to Education Act passed in 2009 had the objective to ensure that every child between the age of 6 to 14 has the right to free and compulsory education. The RTE gives effect to the 86th Constitutional Amendment via Article 21A and as per the rules, private schools will have to admit at least 25 percent of children in their schools without charging any fee.
Children belonging to the economically weaker and disadvantaged sections are to be admitted in 25 percent of the total capacity of seats at entry level in the recognized unaided private schools.
Approximately 1 lakh students in the weaker sections have been enrolled in schools in the 2021-22 academic session as per the provisions placed by the RTE.
