Rajasthan Government releases funds for first Government English Medium School in the state

The government of Rajasthan on Tuesday released the budget for the newly opened Mahatma Gandhi Rajkiya Vidyalay which is Rajasthan’s first English Medium Government School. The Directorate of Education, Bikaner issued the orders on June 14, 2019, in order to open one English Medium Schools until Class 8 in every district headquarters which will operate in the existing government school buildings in the state of Rajasthan.

Around 33 schools have been opened in every district headquarters in the state of Rajasthan with Rs. 1.25 lakhs allotted to each of the schools.

Although the teachers have not been recruited or transferred to these schools, the academic session for the first school started on July 1, 2019. After facing a severe backlash the Rajasthan Education Department finally released the list of teachers, support staff, computer teachers, and the other nonteaching staff members appointed to the school.

The teachers were not recruited separately but were selected through an interview which was conducted within the department. The interviews for the teachers were conducted on June 26 and 27, 2019.

According to the officials, the priority is being given to the spoken English skills of the teachers which will help in the development of the students who are studying in the schools.

The decision to set up the English medium schools have been put forward by the department in order to improve the English medium schools in the state at a time when studies in English are in trend and parents are ready to spend a huge amount of money to get their children admitted into English Medium Schools as it is helpful in the later stages of life.  

As per an earlier regulation, only those schools which have their own building and all other amenities including furniture, classrooms, toilets, teachers appointed, etc, have been converted into English Medium Schools.
