Anand Kumar of Super 30 fame has been invited to Cambridge University, England, to speak at the Cambridge Union which is the world’s oldest debating and free speech society at the university. Anand Kumar will be speaking at the university on November 24, 2019. Bihar Based Mathematician has termed the invite a dream come true as he was denied opportunity to join Cambridge University during his student days due to financial challenges.
While speaking to the media about his invitation he said that it is a dream that has finally come true as he will be speaking at a place where he once wanted to study but could not due to his poor financial situation. Although he did receive his admission letter from Cambridge University he could not pursue it as he could not afford it.
He said that this is indeed a huge opportunity and recalled his late father who was happy about his admission letter but later disappointed as he could not arrange the money required for his education at Cambridge. He said that the invitation to speak at Cambridge Union has come as a blessing for him.
Anand Kumar founded Super 30 which nurtures 30 students from underprivileged sections of the society every year and tutors them cost-free for the entrance examinations conducted for admission to IIT’s. His venture is claimed to have brought out hundreds of successful UUT aspirants since its establishment nearly two decades ago.
The invitation letter address to Anand Kumar by Cambridge Union stated that his Super 30 programme has helped in breaking the social and educational barriers in India while gaining worldwide popularity for his selfless actions.
Anand Kumar started Super 30 in 2002 providing free food, accommodation, and education to the children of Rickshaw puller, farm labourer, housemaids, and other underprivileged students and helped them in making it big in life by clearing the entrance examinations at IIT.
