Chances of 20% Hike in GSEB Board Examination Fee, Next Exam Onwards

Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board abbreviated as GSEB is considering 20% hike in fee for HSC & SSC upcoming Board examination. The hike in examination fee discussion has been listed in the agenda of the examination committee meeting, to be held on 26 September 2013.
It is estimated the board would get Rs 10 crore each year if the committee agrees to the 20% hike decision. Approximately 18 lakh students are to pay the fee in the next examination.
Sources inform that examination fee for HSC & SSC students have not been revised since 2006. In addition, till now the board bears all the expenditure including of the stationary, shipping, logistics etc, which is essential to conduct the examinations each year.
M. I. Joshi, (GSHSEB) informed that to this proposal- no such decision is finalized as of now. The proposal for hike is however put in front of the examination committee meeting to ultimately decide upon. On the other hand, many School’s Principals and Parents are not in the favour of this suggestion.
The prevailing fee that GSHSEB charges is Rs. 220 per SSC student whereas, Rs. 320 for HSC general stream student. Furthermore, Rs 250 is paid per semester by each student for HSC science stream, while each student of standard 11 science stream shells out Rs 280 per semester as examination fee.
