Jamia Millia Islamia's premier media institute, AJK Mass Communication Research Centre launched a new Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in Acting. The academic session will begin from July 2012 and will be of 1 year duration with 20 seats to offer.
Eligibility Criteria
The students must possess a graduation degree in any discipline (10+2+3) with not less than 50% marks in aggregate for admission to the course. The students will be selected on the basis of marks obtained in the Entrance Test (Written Test) followed by an Interview.
The Written Test will have multiple choice questions based on a) General Knowledge (25 marks) b) Knowledge of theatre/ drama (25 marks) and some Descriptive questions (35 marks) also. The Interview will be given a weightage of 15 marks. Besides, 25 marks will be reserved for the portfolio of the applicant which should consist of acting related activities. The applicant needs to submit the portfolio as and when required by the Institute.
Objective of the Course
The objective of the Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in Acting is to introduce the students with the fundamentals of acting. The course also aims to make the students informed observers of the acting experience.
The course will also nurture the acting skills of the aspirants through various improvisations and exercises to be included in the course curriculum. In a way this will open up all new ways to theatre productions as well as television and film industry for the students as acting is an important component across all these media.
Future Prospects
Since this is totally a professional course, a balance will be maintained between theoretical and practical aspects of Acting. Inputs on acting, voice, script writing etc. will be given to students to introduce them to various elements of acting. It is not mandatory that after completing the course the students have to be in acting profession but they can choose other relevant career options like teachers, actors and script writers.
