For Gaurav Gupta, Director of Sadhana Academy for Media Studies (SAMS), mentors and teachers play a huge role in shaping a person's life, not just academically, but they also help mould him be a better person.
"A student or an employee doesn't need guidance only for academics. His lifestyle also needs to be shaped in order to make him a better human being. That is where the teacher's role comes in play. He should guide you towards the larger good," Gupta tells you.
There are various courses, long-term and short-term, being taught in his institute but Gupta says the USP lies in the fact that there is more weightage given to practical teaching rather than rote learning. "This is something that I have imbibed from my school in Delhi. My teachers lay a lot of importance on the practical aspect of things. That helped me
Grow as a student. We have applied the same philosophy out here to good results. Theory is a major chunk, but practical is given a lot of importance too," he says.
Can this be applied to any job, across any sector? "Yes.
One can apply this to any given situation or company. No one wants to hire a robot. Every industry is on the lookout for people who can ideate and give pronto solutions. That will come only when you are actively aware of happenings around you: he says.
For someone who has been in the education sector for a very long time, Gupta says there has been a dearth of originality across all industries. That, according to him, needs to be changed ASAP. "The other problem plaguing our corporate sector is the fact that people are pursuing a job just for the heck of it. It is unfortunate that people are still hanging on to the traditional system of opting for a doctor. engineering or a management profession. I would urge people to ditch this idea and go for a career of their choice At the end of the day, it is your life. You need to be in love with your job to be able to perform better," he says, adding that a mentor plays a pivotal role in guiding his people towards that ideal career' that best suits you. The one lesson that he holds close to his heart — Keep your heart in the right place, opt for a career of choice and give it your 100 per cent "As youngsters, we were taught to take onus of our actions. I think that needs to be inculcated in young minds today. They need to be mentored to be more responsible for their actions. The rest will fall into place," he states. Is the education sector a booming one? It is one of the most upcoming sectors in India. A wonderful place for passionate people to work and grow at the same time. It is an extremely satisfying job profile too," Gupta concludes.
