The exam schedule released on 21 September by Mumbai University for B.A. - third year shocked the students with a long list of bloopers, having wrong names of papers as well as wrong paper numbers mentioned.
Over two weeks time was taken by university to put up the correct time-table on its website, uploaded just before 5 days before the exam to be commenced, i.e. October 14.
However, even the new exam schedule consists at least four papers of different combinations conflicts, clash of date and arrangement, putting students in confusion.
While most subject papers had mistakes in the paper code and numbers, few of the paper names were changed unrecognizably.
Paper V (business environment) became Paper IX (export management) while Paper-VI mentioned as statistics is in reality - Applied statistics-I.
The principal of an arts college told that the university management call for having a mechanism to evade such blunders in future.
Padma Deshmukh (the controller of examinations) informed that the University follows the nomenclature given in the curriculum. The classification in the syllabus was not understandable so they mentioned the given names and paper code/numbers on schedule, as available to them. It was corrected after meeting chairpersons of the board of studies of different subject papers.
She further added for the clash , that only with the arts faculty such issues occur since it presents quite a few combinations of subjects.
Another principal pointed out that students are also suspicious about the long-standing exam schedule. In the new credit-based grading system, the examination for the fifth semester classes begins from October 14 till December 5.
