In order to promote Yoga and Ayurveda among the youth of the state, Haryana Government has already decided to make yoga a mandatory part of the school curriculum in the state run schools. Now, the Haryana Government has offered Baba Ramdev a cabinet position. Earlier, Ramdev was made brand ambassador of the state promoting Yoga and Ayurveda.
Ramdev was previously given powers of taking measures to promote Yoga in the state, but now he would have the same status as that of a cabinet minister in the state. The Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar made this announcement and made this clear that a function at Panchkula would be organized on April 21, felicitating Baba Ramdev on his new position in the cabinet.
The Haryana government is planning on making Yoga a compulsory subject in all the schools. Under the ‘Haryana Physical Activities and Sports Policy 2015’, the state has already issued guidelines that all the sports stadiums in districts would have a yoga centre. The government has also notified that the schools should conduct yoga practice during the zero hour and the teachers should get special training and coaching in Yoga. Soon, the Yoga could become syllabus part of all the physical education degree and diploma programmes in the state, as the education department is planning to do the same. The government is also considering establishing yogshalas, i.e. Yoga centres all throughout the state across all the cities and its 6500 villages.
