China has been expanding its boundaries more than it physically could. One of such initiatives is the One Belt One Road initiative which would bind the world to the country and the other is the String of Pearls.

On one hand, the One Belt One Road Initiative is compared to the Silk Road and would take up the North of India while on the other hand, the String of Pearls would take up the south and the coasts of India.

The other project that is encircling India is China Pakistan Economic Corridor. For OBOR 206 cooperation documents have been signed with 140 countries and 32 international organisations.

The project’s first objective was to enhance local awareness of the scope and nature of Chinese activism in states with

How is India threatened by China’s Policy?

The String of Pearls endangers Indian maritime security. China is developing more power with more submarines, destroyers, vessels, and ships. They can pose a threat to India’s security through the sea.

Indian resources need to be diverted towards defence and security at the borders due to this which would lead to hampering the economic growth. This may further lead to instability in India and the whole east and southeast region.

The strategic clout of India which it enjoys today in the Indian ocean will be reduced. China doesn’t have any openings in the Indian ocean, the Strings of Pearl will lead to China surrounding India and it will be able to dominate it.

Countries that today consider India as a partner in response to China may end up in the lap of China.

India's Master Plan Against China's Expansionist Policies:

India's response to China's policies is a list of a few projects. Take a look at them below.

International North-South Transport Corridor:

One of these names is International North-South Transport Corridor. It is a corridor to increase trade between India and Russia. This trade route is 7200 km long and the transport of freight is through a network of roads and railways. This route is connecting between Russia and Azerbaijan through Iran.

The earlier route that was followed was through the Suez Canal.

The corridor was developed in September 2020. It would begin from Mumbai and go to St Petersberg. It is a 7200 km long chain. It will pass through Bandarabas, Azerbaijan, Baku and Moscow. It is a link between India and Europe on a larger scale. It is 40% faster and 30% cheaper than the normal route of the Suez Canal followed. The only issue is in Mmountaineouys Iran.

The 13 nations are

  1. India
  2. Iran
  3. Russia
  4. Azerbaijan
  5. Armenia
  6. Kazakhstan
  7. Belarus
  8. Tajikistan
  9. Kyrgystan
  10. Oman
  11. Turkey
  12. Syria
  13. Ukraine.

Neighbourhood First

The next policy India came up with was Neighbourhood First in 2014. This policy was started in 2014 and India spread its arms for its smaller neighbours. New Delhi started on large scale credit, commercial contracts and foreign aids to these countries. There was a success in the early stages. However, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Myanmar have grown closer to China. Now Afghanistan has been captured by the Taliban ruining India's only success in this policy.

Asia Africa Growth Corridor

The other policy is with Japan to enhance trade relations. It is called Asia Africa Growth Corridor. The idea was to link Africa through shipping lanes. PM Modi has this dream project which is liaison by Japan's Shinzo Abe. As of 2021, there has been no progress regarding the project.
