It has favourable volcanic soil and ideal climate conditions for Hass avocados, which are creamy and rich and used all over the world. Colombia is the second biggest avocado producer, with around 1.1 million metric tonnes produced per year. The avocado industry in Colombia is developing rapidly, especially in the Antioquia and Tolima regions. Peru is the third largest avocado producer, with approximately 0.9 million metric tonnes of total production. It grows both Hass and Fuerte varieties of avocados.
