CUET UG 2024 Admission: Two Mumbai universities namely Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics and Mithibai College of Arts have opted out of Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2024. These colleges will consider the marks scored by students in Class 12 for admission purposes. The two autonomous colleges offered admission to students for undergraduate programmes through CUET UG last year.
According to reports, these universities opted out of CUET 2024 as the schedule of the entrance exam does not align with the time table followed by the Mumbai colleges. CUET UG 2024 exam will be conducted between May 15 to May 31, 2024. As per latest reports, a private university called Somaiya Vidyavihar University filled 90% of the seats based on Class 12 Board Exam marks before the CUET entrance test results were announced. Only a few students were offered admission through the entrance test results.
Somaiya Vidyavihar University may fill seats based on CUET 2024 score for admission to undergraduate programmes. The CUET UG 2024 Results is expected to be declared early compared to the previous year. In a latest notification, Mithibai college informed that admission to 13 undergraduate courses will be offered based on Class 12 marks only.

Reasons Behind Dropping Out Of CUET Exam
Principal Krutika Desai from Mithibai College said the CUET schedule is more aligned with educational institutions in the northern region. The academic session begins in August or September in north India as compared to other parts. The principal added that the university had started the practice of conducting entrance tests during the pandemic because the board exams were scrapped and the process was unoptimised.

Mithibai College decided to use the CUET scores instead of holding their exam but it delayed its academic cycle. However, the principal stated that there is no reason for a separate screening test when the board exams are streamlined again.
Moreover, a professor at Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics mentioned that the admission process for 2023 got delayed by almost 50 days. Meanwhile, most Mumbai colleges managed to start their session by June-end or July first week. The professor further stated that many students were unaware about the university’s decision to use CUET scores and, therefore, missed the chance to apply to the college.
