Delhi University to setup Control Rooms for Holi-related Complaints

Delhi University has setup control rooms for Holi related complaints. The varsity has also approached DTC and Delhi Metro to check any harassment of girl students during the Holi week.

Delhi University has started Control Rooms to register Holi related complaints during the festival at North and South campuses of the varsity. The decision is aimed at check Holi related hooliganism in colleges and departments of the University. In an official statement, the University has asked students to avoid playing Holi in a rowdy manner on campus. This includes playing Holi using wet colours, balloons or pistols at any of the educational institutes affiliated to the University. Students caught violating these guidelines will be held guilty under the anti-ragging and anti-eve-teasing provisions that are followed by the University.

The official advisory issued by Delhi University reads "All are requested to desist from playing of Holi in a rowdy manner and with wet colours/ balloons/ pistons in any educational institution. Entry to colleges/ departments/ centres/ halls/ hostels would be regulated through identity cards during the festival days.”

In an official statement, Delhi University said "The principals, head of the departments and Provost of halls and hostels may form committees of teachers, students and ''karamcharis'' to prevent the entry of outsiders into the colleges and departments. Security guards should be posted at the gates to check the identity cards of visitors and students”.

The Control Rooms will be setup by the Delhi University will be managed through joint efforts of Delhi Police and DTC authorities as well as University officials. The key task of these control rooms will be to check any untowardly incident on campus during the festival on 21st March 2019.

As part of this initiative, “DTC drivers have been instructed to take the buses to the nearest police station in case any hooliganism or harassment of students is noticed in the buses, especially any incident targeted at girls," the varsity said.

Mobile patrolling is also being deployed and the university has requested the police authorities to deploy force in uniform and in plain clothes in the buses going to various colleges.
