Delhi’s Ambedkar Pathshala: The Ambedkar pathshala of Delhi has been a source of providing education for those who belong to the marginalised communities of Delhi. The initiative has been excellent. Know the details here. The number of these Pathshalas is nine as of now and these are being run in various parts of Delhi. The motto behind running these Pathshalas is to provide the remedial education to the students of class 6-10 without any cost. These Pathshalas are being run in the government and municipal schools of Delhi.

The Ambedkar Pathshala was started as an initiative by the Minister of Social Welfare of Delhi Mr. Rajendra Pal Gautam. Now, these Pathshalas are being set up more in number and the tally has gone to nine till date. Also, it has now become a government scheme as it has found a mention in the Budget speech of the Education Minister Manish Sisodia. The Education Minister has allotted an amount of Rs 2.2 crore for this. In his budget speech, Mr. Sisodia said, “Remedial coaching to SC/ST/OBC students studying in classes VI to X of government schools will be given under the new scheme, Ambedkar Pathshala.”

The Ambedkar Pathshalas are currently run by the individuals and the NGOs. These Pathshala are located at various places in Delhi. The students who come in these Pathshalas belong to marginalised communities. The parents of these children do not have time for them as they have to work hard to earn their living. These Pathshalas are helping these children to complete their home work and provide the remedial classes to them so that they can excel in their studies. Also, these Pathshalas are meant for the children who cannot afford the heavy tuition fee of the private tutors.

There are issues with the running of these Pathshalas as it is difficult to pay the teachers who are offering their services. The fund is always an issue if the organisation is run in an unorganised manner. However, the initiative is worth appreciating.
