Delhi University recently released an online notification stating that the intermediate semester students will be promoted by the university to the next semester. However, according to the university, those students who failed or were absent for any of the papers will still have to qualify those examinations in the next semester or year.
The university has further added that all the students will be allowed to appear for the improvement examination in the next semester. The university has earlier cancelled the first and second-year examinations and decided to promote them based on their previous performance and internal assessment.
According to the official notification released the students who will be promoted as the one-time measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be awarded marks based on the internal assessments. These students can reappear for the exams to be held next year and improve their scores. Students of the university can visit the official website to check the notification. According to the notification released, the decision to carry forward the students who have failed will be allowed in the current academic year only. These students will be promoted to the next year however, these students will have to clear the examinations to be held next year as per the cycle of the semester and span period for the subjects in which they have failed or remained absent.
Earlier, Delhi University had announced that no semester examinations will be conducted for the even-semester undergraduate or postgraduate students except for the final semester students. This decision was taken as a precautionary measure due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation. According to the notification released by the university, the intermediate semester students will be promoted based on a grading of a combination of marks scored in the internal assessment and previous semester.

The notification states that 50 percent marks will be based on the internal evaluation and the remaining 50 percent will be based on the previous semester. The first-year students with no record if previous year performance will be promoted based on the assignment based evaluation.
