The results of these two subjects have gone down with the students scoring less than 76 percent in Mathematics.

He said that the government has decided to conduct extra coaching classes in the schools in order to improve the results of the subjects in which the students are lagging behind. He also added that extra coaching classes will be conducted for the students who have obtained compartment or have failed in the board examinations.

Deputy CM Manish Sisodia while sharing the details said that the project is aimed at improving the results of the class 10 students in the present academic session thereby focusing on the teaching of mathematics.

The proposal put forth by the Directorate of Education is aimed at seeking the approval for engaging external agencies for assigning their resources for conducting special mathematics classes before the board exams and prepare the students of the compartment examination as well if necessary. The external resource persons will supplement the efforts put by the teachers in the select schools.

According to the Deputy CM 342 schools have been shortlisted with low results in mathematics last year. The project will begin in January 2020 covering 30,000 students from class 10 of the government schools in Delhi.

Classes will be conducted for 100 hours which will cover important topics that have to be completed before the board examinations. Students will also be provided with practice materials by these external agencies.

The reason for focusing especially on mathematics is due to the poor performance of the students in the subject the previous year as compared to the other subjects. The results of mathematics were the lowest which was also one of the major reasons for the overall pass percentage to remain at 71.58 percent for the main examinations.
