Coronavirus Crisis in Goa: Goa Government has denied that it has issued any orders for closure of Schools and Colleges in the state due to counter spread of COVID-19 in the country. The clarification comes in the wake of rumours about School Closures in Goa after fake screenshot of CM’s tweet about the same went viral on social media. After the screenshot went viral, several students and parents raise the query about the same with the Government agencies, following which the CMO Goa issued a tweet clarifying that no such decision has been taken by the Pramod Sawant Government.

CMO Goa issues tweet Clarifying the Matter

To further avoid any confusion, CMO Goa from its official twitter handle sent out a tweet confirming that schools and colleges in Goa have not been shutdown due to COVID-19. The tweet read “"A fake screenshot of Honble CMs tweet is circulating on social media. No such tweet has been made by the CM. Screenshots may be cross-checked with official Twitter & Facebook profiles of the CM and CMO for their authenticity before being forwarded.” The fake screenshot doing the rounds claiming shutdown of schools was attributed to the personal twitter account of Goa CM Pramod Sawant.

No Positive Case of Coronavirus in Goa so far

At the time of filing of this story, no positive case of COVID-19 or Coronavirus infection has come to light in the state of Goa. However, being a global tourist hub, the government and administration has put in place adequate arrangements to ensure thorough screening of people coming from outside India. As per official update, the State Health Department has kept 19 people in home isolation while 1 person with travel history to Italy and Finland, who came in contact with an infected patient, has been shifted to an isolation ward of a state-run hospital.  As part of the state’s preparedness, the Mormugao Port Trust in Goa has banned the entry of cruise vessels till March 31 in view of the novel coronavirus threat.
