According to media reports, the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta will be resuming classes for the two year MBA programme from August 10, 2020. The classes will commence for the students in the online mode. According to reports, the course will have a total of 480 students from across the country who will be joining the classes virtually. The online classes for the second year MBA students will commence from August 3, 2020, onwards.
IIM Calcutta conducted the admissions for the different programs in spite of the COVID-19 lockdown imposed since March 2020. Keeping in mind the safety of the students, staff members, and the faculty members, all the admission interviews were conducted in the online mode.
The institute, given that conducting the WAT examinations for the online admission process was not feasible, the institute did not consider the weightage given to the Written Ability Test for the final selection of the students for the MBA Batch of 2020-22.
IIM Admissions Chairperson, Professor Megha Sharma, stated that along with the admission process, the registration process for the 2020-22 batch is underway with more than 30 percent of students being females. Close to 20 percent of the students who have registered are from non-engineering backgrounds while more than 60 percent of the batch had prior work experience.
An orientation programme is being conducted for the MBA 2020-22 batch for 10 days in the online mode. The welcome session for the students will be conducted online on August 8, 2020. IIM Calcutta, Director Professor Anju Seth, stated that several steps have been taken to sustain the academic rigor and preserve the unique teaching and learning experience in the digital mode.
