What is 2 or 3 Attempt Confusion for JEE Advanced?

On 5th November 2024, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) announced that students who passed Class 12 in 2023, 2024, or 2025 could appear for JEE-Advanced three times instead of the earlier limit of two. Many students, excited by this news, left their college courses to focus on JEE preparation.

However, on 18th November 2024, the board suddenly reversed the decision and went back to the original rule of only two attempts. This left many students confused and worried as they had already made important decisions based on the earlier announcement.

The drop out students filed a case in the Supreme Court. They argued that the authorities should not take back their earlier promise, as students had already acted upon it by leaving their college courses.

SC's Final Decision on JEE Advanced Attempt Controversy

The Supreme Court ruled in favour of these students. The court stated that:

  • Students who left their courses between 5th November and 18th November 2024 based on the earlier rule can appear for JEE-Advanced 2025.
  • This decision was made because of special circumstances.

This decision allows the affected students another chance to apply for the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

It also reminds authorities to communicate policies clearly and avoid sudden changes, as these can seriously affect students’ decisions and futures.
