JEE Main Exam Pattern 2025: The exam pattern for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025 has changed significantly, which will affect how candidates study for the test. Paper 1 (BE/BTech), Paper 2A (BArch), and Paper 2B (BPlan) are the three JEE Mains 2025 exam papers for which NTA has changed the pattern. According to the updated format, optional questions will not be included in Section B of the JEE Main test 2025 for Paper 1. In Section B, there will only be five questions per subject, and students must answer all five of them. There will also be no optional questions in the mathematics section of Section B in Papers 2A and 2B. The new JEE Main 2025 exam pattern, which NTA has made available here, is accessible to applicants.

The most important modification is that all questions in Section B must be attempted; the optional questions have been removed. This change is meant to speed up the evaluation process and make sure that students focus on developing a deeper understanding of the material. Read this post to find out more about the format of the upcoming JEE Main 2025 exam.

Exams for the first session took place from January 22 to January 30, 2025, while the second session has started from April 2 to April 9, 2025.

Major Changes in JEE Main 2025

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has recently made significant changes in the exam pattern of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025. Students preparing for the exam should take note of these updates to align their preparation accordingly.

JEE Main 2025 Section B Optional Questions Removed

One of the most important changes in JEE Main 2025 is the removal of optional questions in Section B. Earlier, candidates could choose a few questions in the numerical-based section, but this flexibility has been removed. Now, all questions in Section B will be compulsory for every candidate.

This format of optional questions was introduced in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that the World Health Organisation has declared the end of the COVID pandemic on May 5, 2023, this privilege of optional questions has been removed from Section B. The students will have only five questions in this section that are compulsory to attempt..

JEE Main Exam Pattern 2025

The JEE Main exam is divided into two sections. Section A will have multiple-choice questions (MCQs), while Section B will have five numerical-based questions. With the removal of optional questions in Section B, students must be prepared to answer every question well.

Paper1: B.E./ B. Tech. in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode:

1. Subject-wise distribution of Questions, Total Number of Questions, and Marks Subject Section A Section B Marks
Mathematics 20*  100
Physics 20*  100
Chemistry 20*  100
Total 75 300
* Each Subject will have two sections. Section A will be of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) and Section B will contain Questions whose answers are to be filled in as a numerical value. In Section B, candidates have to attempt 05 (five) questions. There will be negative marking for both Section A and Section B. For each question in Section B, a candidate has to enter the correct integer value of the answer using the mouse and the on-screen virtual numeric keypad in the place designated to enter the answer. For Section B, the answer should be rounded off to the nearest integer.
