In a meeting conducted recently discussing the NEP, the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey has directed the state authorities to set up a committee of experts to discuss the implementation of the new National Education Policy (NEP). During the meeting conducted the Maharashtra Chief Minister stated that the new National Education Policy has several new concepts for which the state government will have to amend the existing laws.
Discussion to be conducted with experts
According to a statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office, at present it is to have a discussion with the researchers, education experts to discuss the policy which was announced earlier last month.
The state government will have to look into the possible changes which can be accepted and what laws need to be added. The Chief Minister has also called for bridging the gap in the education system by enabling 100 percent online and offline education for the students keeping in mind the COVID-19 pandemic. The Chief Minister has also asked its officials to check if the Central government of the academic year can be shifted from January to December.
New NEP to replace 34-year-old education policy
The new National Education Policy was approved by the Union Cabinet last month to replace the 34-year-old National Policy in Education which was framed in 1986 and is also aimed at transforming rules in schools and Higher Education systems to make India a global knowledge superpower.
NEP Details
The New National Education Policy has introduced a few changes with respect to the school education system changing it from the 10+2 system to the 5+3+3+4 format. Other key points mentioned in the new NEP include mandatory entrance examinations for the College admissions along with multiple entries and exit points with regard to completing a course. Students exiting before completing the curse duration will be awarded a Diploma Certificate which will make sure that years invested by the students are not wasted.
