NEET 2020 Exam Update: Supreme Court of India today issued notices to the Central Government and the Medical Council of India (MCI) over a plea that demands allocation of Test Centres for NEET in gulf countries. Alternatively, the petitioners have demanded that the NEET 2020 medical entrance exam be postponed to a future day after impact of COVID-19 pandemic subsides. The petition is being heard by a bench of Justices L.Nageswara Rao, Hemant Gupta & S. Ravindra Bhat, who have issued notices to the Central Government, seeking their reply on the matter.
Similar Plea Rejected by Kerala High Court Earlier
The petition comes as a follow-up to an earlier PIL rejected by the Kerala High Court which sought similar relief. The High Court at that time had rejected the plea saying that it cannot issued directions to MCI and NTA as they were expert bodies in their respective fields and knew how to conduct entrance exams the best. However, now the apex court has decided to hear the plea and also issued notices to the Central Government and the Medical Council of India on the matter.
Students Unable to Appear for NEET Due to Travel Restrictions
In the plea filed in the Supreme Court, by Advocate Haris Beeran and Pallavi Pratap on behalf of parents of students, the petitioner has said that over 4000 students from Qatar and the Middle-East are facing difficulties in travel and other arrangements to appear for the NEET 2020 medical entrance exam that is scheduled to be held on 6th September. The petitioner said that the students have tried to register themselves for the flights being operated under the Vande Bharat Mission to reach India and appear for the exam; however, none of them have managed to get a seat. In the light of this development, the plea urges court to direct the Central Government to allocate more exam centres in the region or postpone the examination.
