
The Panjab University, Punjab recently released a notification stating that the University will be conducting an entrance exam for admission to M.A. Economics course for 2019-20 academic session. Till the last academic year the admissions to the M.A. Economics course at the university were made on the basis of marks secured by the aspiring candidate in his/her qualifying exam of B.A. Economics. Candidates had to score a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in Economics and 50% overall marks in B.A./B.Sc./B.Com to be eligible to apply. Thereafter, the university used to prepare a merit list of all the eligible students and call the shortlisted candidates for the counselling process.
However, from the 2019-20 academic session a university level entrance exam will be conducted for admission to the MA Economics course. It is proposed that the duration of this entrance exam will be of 1 hour and 30 minutes wherein the candidates will have to attempt a total of 35 MCQ type questions. The exam will be of 75 Marks in total i.e. each question will be weighing 1 mark each. Also, the prescribed syllabus for this entrance exam is same as that of the BA Hons Economics/ BA Hons (under CBCS scheme) / economics (elective). The University currently offers 5 year Integrated, M.Phil, MA and Ph.D. programme. Also, the exam pattern for the MA Economics Entrance Exam is still a proposal and there might be changes in the finalised exam pattern.
