Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal says the states are independent to develop their very own academic calendar and also choose when to give the students a summer break depending on the situation.

States can decide on summer vacations for schools

Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has stated that the states can develop their very own academic calendar and assessment schedules and also choose when to give the students a summer break depending on the situation.

The minister has also added that the CBSE will assess the loss of instructional time due to the COVID-19 lockdown for a reduction in the curriculum load for the 2021 board examinations even as the online learning portals have seen a rise in the number of users.

Summer vacations begin at different times in the different parts of the country and many schools that are closed due to the lockdown are also thinking about starting the summer vacations early in order to manage the academic calendar in a better way.

The CBSE or the HRD Ministry will not make any announcement regarding the summer vacations for the schools as it is a regional matter and only the state governments are able to take a decision on the same.

The parents of the students have reached out to both the MHRD  and the CBSE seeking clarification regarding the start date of the summer vacations in the schools. Officials have confirmed that the decision regarding the summer vacations will be taken as per the rules of the state governments which is also applicable for all the CBSE schools in the different regions.

The HRD Minister also confirmed to the media that the best measures will be taken by the government in order to make sure that there is a minimal academic loss for students during the pandemic.

The HRD Ministry and CBSE have also confirmed that the NCERT is revising the present academic year syllabus to accommodate the lost time. And although online classes are being conducted in the different parts of the country the MHRD and the state authorities are also aware of the difficulties faced by the students. Experts have also suggested that the lost time will make it even more difficult for the schools to manage the entire syllabus.
