Tamil Nadu Rain: With incessant rains lashing part South-Eastern Coast of India, Schools are slated to remain closed in Chennai & Puducherry for next two days, as per the latest update. Tamil Nadu Rains have caused a havoc in the coastal parts of the state with rapidly rising water levels in several districts causing a flood-like situation. The decision to close-down Schools in Chennai was announced by Chief Minister CM Stalin as people continued their battle with rising water levels even today. The announcement has confirmed that the Schools in State Capital Chennai, which is worst affected and the Union Territory of Puducherry will remain closed on 8th and 9th November 2021 i.e. on Monday and Tuesday. Apart from this, even in Tiruvannamalai all schools and colleges have been shut and people have been asked to postpone their trips to Chennai or any other areas due to risk to lives. 

School Reopening for Puducherry Postponed

The recent order about school closure due to heavy rains, has put the Puducherry Union Territory Administration’s decision about allow reopening of schools for Class 1 to 8 students on hold. In its official order, the state government notes that with heavy rainfall and high alert issued for the UT, the government has put off reopening of schools for primary students as of now. The order further states that the new dates for reopening schools for these classes will be announced later. 

IMD Alert until 11th November

With incessant rains lashing the south-eastern coast, IMD - India Meteorological Department has issued an alert saying that heavy rainfall is expected in the next two days until 11th November 2021. Following the alert, coastal regions from Andhra Pradesh to Tamil Nadu have been put on high alert. The alert has attributed the heavy rainfall to the northeast monsoon and a formation of low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal. Reports suggest that till now Tamil Nadu has received about 43% excess rainfall, causing a flood-like situation in many parts.
