IBPS SO VI notification is out and we have the last IBPS common recruitment notification this year after the IBPS PO, Clerk and RRBs notification from the exam conducting organization. This time, IBPS has made drastic changes in the examination pattern and this is going to affect the final selection of the candidates. In this article, we are going to discuss the ideal strategy in detail to crack the examination so that you land a job in any public sector bank of the country as a specialist officer.

IBPS SO VI: The changes that are going to make the difference

IBPS has made several changes in the recruitment process of specialist officers as compared to the last year process and this is going to be a game changer this year. In this article, we are going to discuss these changes in detail:

Only professional knowledge matters: Yes, your selection depends on the performance you show in the professional knowledge paper of the examination and no marks are awarded for your performance in other sections. Those are only qualifying in nature.

Number of questions changed: We have 50 questions in all the sections in the examination this year. This implies that we have 50 questions each for general reasoning, English, general awareness with special reference to banking industry and professional knowledge.

Sectional timing is there: This time IBPS has introduced the concept of sectional timing in the examination and you have to attempt each and every section according to the time limit given by the examination conducting body. You have 30 minutes each for reasoning and general awareness, 35 minutes for professional knowledge and 25 minutes for English this year.

Marks allotted for professional knowledge: With more focus mainly on professional knowledge, we have 80 marks allotted to this paper instead of 75 marks as last year. This year, you will have 50 questions in this section and the total marks allotted will be 80 marks.

Total marks for selection: Till last year, the total marks were 200 for written and 100 for the interview and the total marks secured by the candidate used to be normalized out of 100 marks. This year, total marks will be 180 and marks secured by the candidate will be converted out of 100 based on that.

IBPS SO 2016-17: Your ideal selection strategy

This year, you have to adopt a completely different strategy to qualify and secure a job through the specialist officer recruitment process conducted by IBPS. Let us see your ideal strategy for this process:

Rely more on Professional Knowledge: Quite obviously, your main and only focus should be professional knowledge since this is what matters this year. So, study this paper only and the rest you can manage with your preparation for IBPS PO, Clerk and RRBs examination.

Practice a bit for other sections: For math and English, practicing a bit will do since most of you are also appearing for other IBPS examinations that are underway in various stages. For freshers who are going to make their debut through this examination, you should focus on the syllabus for the examination and prepare the topics accordingly from that. First go through the basics and then practice. This is what is required to pass in these sections.

Current affairs should be read daily: Yes, you have to read and revise current affairs daily since this is the most dynamic subject of all. You need to go through current affairs of at least last 6 months and revise it as many times as possible to remember it properly during the examination.

General Awareness should be read before the examination: With little importance attached to this section, your only strategy should be to read it before the examination so that you can remember as much as possible during the examination. Do not waste too much time for this.

Mock tests will be of help: This examination is not going to depend on your speed but your knowledge of your subject. There will be ample time but you need to make sure that you know the answers. Attempt some standard mock tests so that you are familiar with the questions and the answers. This will help you familiarize with the whole new pattern for the examination.

IBPS SO examination will be held tentatively in the month of January 2017 and most of you were busy with your preparations for IBPS PO mains and IBPS Clerical along with the RRBs. Continue with that and from now onwards, keep some time for the professional knowledge section as well so that you do not need to spend too much time later on this.

Specialist Officer jobs are good for those who want to remain in their respective fields and also want to live a life in the metro cities. On the other hand, you will have ample time to study for other examinations if you join as a specialist officer in any nationalized bank. So, prepare hard and get your success delivered at your doorstep.

All the best!!
