IIFT Summer Placements 2018: Average Stipend shoots up to Rs 1.37 Lakhs

The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) has completed its MBA placements for 2018. Average stipend has shot up to Rs 1.37 Lakh from Rs 1.24 Lakhs last year.

Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) is known across the country and even abroad as one of the top MBA colleges in India. The B-school has been a dream destination for MBA aspirants who want to specialize in foreign trade management. This year, IIFT has emerged as the fastest B-school to complete their summer placements for its 2017-19. The summer placement programme at IIFT this year at IIFT witnessed footfall from large companies and corporations from different sectors and even different countries. Of the total batch size, nearly 65% of the students got placed during the summer placements, making it one of the most fruitful summer placement activities conducted by any B-school in India. First B-school to complete Placements 2018

As stated below, the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) has claimed the crown of being the first B-school in India to complete their summer placements 2018. Being the only premier B-school offering MBA specialization in foreign trade, the institute attracts students and recruiters from different walks of life and even from different countries.

Average Stipend Shoots Up

As per the initial data coming from IIFT, the average stipend offered under the summer placements programme has shot-up significantly. This year the average stipend being offered to IIFT management graduates has reached Rs 1.37 lakh from last year’s Rs 1.24 lakh. The shift marks a significant increase of around 11% in the average stipend being shelved out to the IIFT MBA graduates.

Student Participation

In terms of student participation, of the total batch offers were made to 282 students. Nearly 65% of the batch was placed successfully in the summer placement sessions at IIFT. More than 16 companies ended up hiring 5 students each during the current placement season at the B-school.


Total 80 recruiters participated in the summer placements at Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT). These include some major names from Indian corporate sphere such as ITC, HUL, Goldman Sachs and many others. The clear stand out of this year’s summer placements at IIFT was that all most all major brands from different domains visited the campus and hired talent from the B-school in good numbers. There was fierce competition among the recruiters to hire the best talent from the B-school which saw the average stipend shoot up by 11% compared to last year to Rs 1.37 lakhs.

Top Recruiters

IIFT has always been a favourite among major corporate brands across India when it comes to hiring management talents. This year, many of the loyal recruiters such as ITC – who has been participating in placement sessions at the B-school for 16 years, returned to grab talent from the latest batch of management graduates.

In addition to this, other top recruiters from the summer placement 2018 session at IIFT include Goldman Sachs, Hindustan UniLever Limited, Bain Capability Centre, Tata Group (Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Metaliks, Tata International & TCS), Marico, General Electroincs (GE), Shell, Dabur, JPMorgan Chase & Co and Godrej Industries (GILAC).

International Offers

IIFT is the most preferred B-school among the recruiters when it comes to international offers being made to MBA graduates, as these students specialize in foreign trade. This year as well, international placements for IIFT MBA graduates continued to be strong. A total of 16 students from the institute grabbed international offers at the summer placement session 2018 at IIFT. The placements were extended from different locations including Middle East, Africa, Europe, Singapore and Indonesia.

In terms of international offers, foreign trade honchos such as Louis Dreyfuss emerged as the top hiring agency at IIFT. In addition to this, World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) continued their exclusive partnership with the B-school this year as well. While WHO hired interns for their Geneva office from IIFT, OCED bagged management talent for their Paris office.

Finance Bags the most Placements

Being a trade school, finance emerged as the most dominating role when it comes to summer placements. Recruiters offered a wide array of roles to management graduates from IIFT in the finance domain. Companies such as Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase & Co, Axis Bank, DBS, GE, Yes Bank, ICICI Bank, RBL, L&T, Piramal Group, Citibank, Indus Valley Partners, Axis Securities and Aviva were top recruiters in this field. Boston Scientific-Corporate Finance and GSK-CH also made their presence felt in the corporate finance field.

Sales and Marketing Profiles

Another unique trend that was witnessed at the IIFT summer placement sessions 2018 was that sales and marketing profiles saw distinct representation from a variety of domains. FMCG, Telecom, Pharma and Healthcare, Consumer Durables, Media and Advertising, E-commerce, Apparel Retail, Automotive, Iron & Steel manufacturing and Real Estate; all made offered for sales and marketing profiles during IIFT summer placements 2018.

In terms of companies hiring; Wipro-CCLG, Godrej Consumer Products Limited, DCM Shriram, ITC, HUL, Britannia, Marico, PPG-Asian Paints were the top names. Telecom majors Bharti Airtel and Vodafone also hired interns from IIFT this year.

Diversification of Management Profiles

General Management sphere also attracted a good cheer from recruiters at IIFT. Top brands such as Godrej Properties,, Airtel, Tata Steel, RPG, Mahindra and Mahindra, Bajaj Auto, Royal Enfield, IBM, Dell and many other hired management graduates from the top trade school in India. In the field of consulting, Synergy Consulting, Bain Capability Centre and CEB (now Gartner) and others were leading the placement session.

Pharmaceutical sector also made its presence felt at the IIFT 2018 summer placements with brand such as Boston Scientific, Medtronic, Sanofi-Genzyme and Sun Pharma picking up interns from the B-school.

Hindustan Times Media also offered internship roles to students in advertising domains.
