The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports would get over 336.93 acres of land from Manipur Government in order to make National Sports University in the state. In Manipur’s Thoubal district during a simple ceremony attended by many dignitaries, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh handed over the land to the National Sports University.
Dignitaries like M Prithviraj Singh, State Parliamentary Secretary Youth Affars and Sports, MLA P Brojen, Chief Secretary and Representatives from the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports were present at the event while the handing over ceremony took place.
Secretary Sports, Government of India headed the team which visited Manipur in August 204 and identified the spot for the establishment of the university. They spotted Yaithibi Khunou in the Thoubal district of Manipur to be ideal for the National Sports University in the state. The state government has decided to provide approximately 400 acres of land to the university so that it could expand its territory in future, if required.
