PM Internship Scheme 2024 aims to provide one crore internships over five years, with a pilot offering 1.25 lakh positions in top Indian companies. Targeting youth aged 21-24, The internship will be conducted for a duration of 12 months, and a stipend of Rs 5,000/month will be provided.

PM Internship Scheme 2024: Registrations for the PM Internship are closing soon. Interested students can submit their application on or before 10 November and take advantage of this opportunity to shape their future. There are no registration or application fees.  The PM Internship scheme is designed to bridge the gap between academics and real world environments, which provides the opportunity to youth to get the real work environment across various sectors. The internship is designed for 12 months, with the goal of enhancing the employability of candidates. 

 In the Budget 2024-2025, the Indian government announced the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS), which aims to give young Indians valuable internship experience in the corporate world. Over the next five years, this ambitious project aims to provide internships in the top 500 companies in India to one crore young people. A pilot project is being started in the financial year 2024-2025 with the aim of providing 1.25 lakh internship opportunities to qualified students as a first step towards the scheme's full implementation.

The companies for this pilot project have been identified on the basis of the CSR expenditure of the last three years. Participation of the companies in this scheme is voluntary. A list of these companies would be uploaded on the PM Internship Scheme Portal.

PM Internship Scheme 2024

The PM internship will be conducted for a duration of 12 months, which ensures that candidates will get theoretical and practical knowledge. The internship will be divided into two parts; the first part ensures that candidates get all the required theoretical knowledge and the second part ensures that the candidates get invaluable hands-on experience. By immersing themselves in a professional work environment, candidates may apply what they've learnt in real-world circumstances, improving their abilities and better equipping them to meet their career goals and industry standards.

PM Internship Scheme 2024: Eligibility Criteria

The candidates who are applying for the internship must be between 21 and 24 years of age as of date of submission. The candidate must not have been employed full-time and not engaged in full-time education at the time of application. Candidates enrolled in online or distance learning programs are eligible to apply.

  • Candidates who have passed high school, higher secondary school, possess a certificate from an ITI, hold a diploma from a polytechnic, or are graduates with degrees such as BA, B.Sc., B.Com., BCA, BBA, B.Pharma, etc. are eligible.
  • The candidates who belong to the premier institutes such as IITs, IIMs, National Law Universities, IISER, NIDS, and IIITs and have qualifications such as CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, MBA, or any master's or higher degree are not eligible to apply for an internship.
  • The candidates who have completed other apprenticeship or skill development schemes under Central or State Governments are also not eligible
  • The candidates whose family income is more than Rs 8 lakh per annum are also not eligible.

PM Internship Scheme 2024: Support and Benefits

The students who will be participating in the internships will get paid through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Scheme. The candidates will be paid a total of Rs 5000 per month for the entire duration of 12 months. The amount will be paid in two parts; check the details below:

  • Every month the company, based on the attendance and related company policies regarding good conduct, etc. will release Rs. 500 to each intern from the Company's CSR funds
  • After Company makes the payment, Government will release remaining Rs 4500 to the candidate through Direct Benefit Transfer to the intern's Aadhaar-seed bank account
  • The government will also provide a one-time grant of Rs 6,000 to each intern by the government through Direct Benefit Transfer upon the intern's joining at the internship location.

PM Internship Scheme 2024: Application and Selection Procedure

Interested candidates can apply online through the designated portal, pminternship.mca.gov.in. The candidates first need to create an account profile by submitting their personal details and educational qualifications through Aadhaar authentication.

  • The shortlisting process will be based on the candidates' preferences and the requirements posted by the companies.
  • The portal will aim to give representation to candidates from socially and economically marginalised sections, including Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). 
  • Companies will select from a pool of shortlisted candidates and extend internship offers based on their own internal criteria.
  • Once an offer is sent by the company to the candidate, the candidate will be able to convey acceptance through the portal.
  • A candidate may receive up to two (2) internship offers in one cycle.
  • Upon a candidate's acceptance of the offer, the portal would automatically generate an internship document that clearly outlines the details of the internship, including the roles and responsibilities of both the intern and the company.
