PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Scholarship 2024: The Ministry of Education has launched the PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Scholarship (PM-USP) aimed at supporting meritorious students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate courses at recognised colleges and universities across India. This scholarship will be awarded to deserving candidates on the basis of the marks secured in class 12th. Every year, up to 82,000 new scholarships awarded annually to students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at recognised colleges and universities, including professional programs such as medicine and engineering.
PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Scholarship 2024-25
The Ministry of Education launched PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Scholarship (PM-USP) to provide financial assistance to deserving students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies at recognised colleges and universities in India. This central sector initiative was introduced to encourage higher education and offer financial support to students based on their performance in the Class 12 board examinations.
PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojana Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for PM USP scholarship, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Academic Performance: Students must be in the top 20% (above the 80th percentile) of successful candidates in their respective Class 12 examinations under the 10+2 system or its equivalent.
- Course Enrolment: It is only available for students enrolled in full-time regular degree courses. Correspondence, distance learning, and diploma courses are not eligible.
- Income Limit: Applicants must come from families with a gross annual income of up to Rs 4.5 lakh. To verify this, students need to submit an income certificate as part of the application process.
- No Dual Scholarship: Students already receiving any other scholarship, including state-sponsored scholarships or fee waivers, are not eligible for this scholarship.
PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojana Scholarship Amount
As per the rates established for the financial year 2022-23, the shortlisted candidates will receive the following amount:
- Undergraduate Courses: Students pursuing undergraduate courses will receive Rs 12,000 per year for the first three years.
- Postgraduate Courses: For postgraduate students, the scholarship amount is Rs 20,000 per year for the duration of their program.
- Professional Programmes (e.g., Engineering, Medicine): For long-duration professional courses, students will receive Rs 20,000 annually from the fourth year onwards.
- Engineering (BTech/BE): Students will receive Rs 12,000 per annum for the first three years, and Rs 20,000 per annum for the fourth year.
PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Scholarship: Disbursement Process
The scholarship funds are directly transferred to the beneficiary's savings account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. To ensure smooth disbursement, the student must have a bank account in their name.

- Institutional Verification: The educational institution where the student is enrolled verifies the application.
- State-level Verification: The higher education department or a designated nodal agency is responsible for final verification and processing.
