Symbiosis National Aptitude Test or SNAP is a prestigious exam that attracts students from across India and is conducted for admission to postgraduate institutes of Symbiosis International University or SIU. Symbiosis Institute of Business Management is considered one of the best business schools in India
Eligibility criteria
For appearing in SNAP test, an aspirant should have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Final year students can also apply.
About the test
The typical SNAP test consists of 180 objective type questions each with four options of which one is correct. The paper is divided into four sections – three sections have 1 mark allotted to each question while each question of the remaining section carries 2 marks. One fourth of a mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
The evaluation process
The total number of questions is equally divided in each section. These sections include:
Quantitative and data interpretation & sufficiency
Students should wind up attempting this section in around 25-30 minutes and should have a good command on the basics. The topics covered in this section are:
- Ratio, proportion and variation
- Averages, mixtures and alligations
- Time, speed, distance
- Time and work
- Probability and permutations and combinations (basic)
- Basic geometry
- Percentages
The Data Interpretation part is usually an amalgam of simple table and pie-chart based questions which involve a few calculations along with Venn diagrams as also a few puzzles/visual reasoning questions.
General English
This section assesses aspirants on their verbal ability and reading comprehension. The idea is to judge candidates on basic rules of English usage and basic vocabulary, spellings of commonly used words. Fill-in-the-blanks questions require a basic knowledge of conjunctions, pronouns and verbs. In addition, questions on synonyms, idioms and phrases, antonyms and match-the-following are also a part of this section.
General awareness
Since the sectional cut-offs are scrapped this supposedly nightmarish section has become a blessing in disguise. However, if the candidate is able to successfully attempt these questions, it will surely fetch a few bonus marks thus boosting his/ her overall score.
Besides these, few questions on abbreviations and names of the various branches of science, brands, government projects, sobriquets, sports events , record holders, world organizations, prizes, world’s largest/smallest/tallest/shortest buildings and popular inventors have successfully found place in this list.
Analytical & logical reasoning
This is an important section of the paper and hence the candidate should try to save his/ her time for it. It is the scoring part of the paper as each question in this section is allotted 2 marks and sums up to nearly half of the total score. The section consists of questions on reasoning, syllogisms, alpha-numeric reasoning, visual reasoning, four DI sets and the rest being simple reasoning based questions.
Since every institute might have its own parameters to judge a candidate, a good score is just not the only criteria of admissions in the best institutes. An institute can have lower weightage for quantitative section while some other institute may have a higher weightage for the same section. The institute, after the SNAP, calls the shortlisted candidates for group discussion and personal interview.
