
Meet child prodigy Saifa Khatun who has achieved something which very few can even think about at her age. Saifa Khatun, a 12-year-old girl from Howrah district, has been allowed to sit for the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) examination in 2019, an official said on Thursday. Interestingly, she has never been to school. "Saifa Khatun, 12, has never been to school. The girl did quite well in the test given to her. So we have allowed her to sit for the WBBSE examination in 2019," said Kalyanmoy Ganguly, President of the administrative body of WBBSE. Ganguly said the last time an under age candidate appeared for the Board examination was in 1991.
Last year, an 11-year-old boy of Hyderabad had cleared the Class 12 board examination. Agastya Jaiswal was reportedly the first person in the state to clear the exam at such a young age. He cleared the board exam with 63 per cent marks. "I want to do my graduation in commerce in the next three years but my ultimate goal is to be a doctor," Agastya was quoted as saying in a HT report. According to a report in India Today, his sister 17-year-old Naina, had enrolled in the PhD programme. She was the first girl from Asia to pass the class 10 board exam at the age of eight and the class 12 exam at 10.
About West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE)
The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education was established through the West Bengal Secondary Education Act, 1950, though it started functioning only around the year 1951. The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education is entrusted with responsibilities such as providing the curriculum for affiliated schools, monitoring the implementation of education policies and conducting yearly West Bengal Board Madhyamik Examination. Each year, around 10 lakh plus students take the West Bengal Board Madhyamik Examination.
