
Bharathiar University has conducted 12 Viva Exams for PhD students in the online mode. According to the University Vice-Chancellor P Kaliraj stated that since the lockdown the university has been conducting the viva exams online with candidates and experts at their homes. The Vice-Chancellor further added that conducting the examinations online has proven to be an easier method.
Bharathiar University Director of Research, A Manimekalan stated that they have approved 20 more vivas to be conducted in the coming weeks. He further added that more than 50 more requests have been received for online Vivas for the next month.
A Manimekalan further stated that the candidates, examiners, guides Vice-Chancellor Nominees and observers who attend the nine sessions interact on Zoom or Google Meet. The sessions are then recorded and screenshots are collected, he further stated. The Vice-Chancellor nominee will, later on, compile a report of the session along with the guide and the examiner before submitting the same.
The regular candidates for the university and the candidates of research and development programmes from across the country have been applying for the online Viva examination University Director of Research, A Manimekalan stated.
Universities across the country have been conducting the vivas for the different programmes in the online mode along with conducting the semester examinations online. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation in the country, the online examinations are being considered as an option for promoting the university students to the next year while some other universities have decided to assess the students based on the internal assessment marks.
