The Central Board of Secondary Education has increased the examination fee of Class 10 and 12 board examination 2020 on a no-profit no-loss principle says Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal. The HRD Minister was responding to a question posed by Lal Sinh Vadodia in the upper house of the Parliament with respect to the recent fee hike announced by the central board for the class 10 and 12 board examinations to be held in 2020.
The board on being criticized for increasing the fee had earlier stated that the deficit of over Rs. 200 crores for conducting the class 10 and 12 board examinations has forced the board to take the step.
The education minister in his reply at the Upper House stated that since education is a subject in the Concurrent List of the Constitutions and a huge majority of the schools are under the jurisdiction of the state governments it is up to the state governments to take a decision on increasing the examination fee for the students in their schools.
He also added that as far as the schools affiliated to the central board is concerned the board has increased the examination fee of class 10 and 12 board examination for all the student on a no-profit no-loss principle. He further mentioned that from the Rs. 350 examination fee for class 10 and Rs. 600 for class 12 until 2019 the SC/ST students of the government schools and Aided schools of Delhi paid Rs. 50 while the balance amount of Rs. 300 and Rs. 550 was paid by the Delhi government.
In regard to the examination of 2020, the Delhi government has paid the full examination fee for all the students of Delhi Government schools including grant-in-aided schools and the Patrachar Vidyalaya.
