Class 10th Board Exam: Recently, some of the states including Telangana, Chhattisgarh have announced the class 10th result based on internal assessment and practical performance. Following CBSE and ICSE, various state boards across the country followed the suit to completely cancel the board exams while adopting the internal assessment mode to promote the students. However, due to COVID-19 cases, various state boards across India have decided to either postponed or cancelled the class 10 board examinations. Check below the list of states and their decision regarding conduction/postponement or promotion of class 10 exams.
List of states and their Decision about Class 10 Exams
Punjab - Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) will announce the result of class 10th on the official website. The PSEB class 10th result will be released based on internal assessment. Earlier the board cancelled the exams on 15th April on announced that students of class 10th will be promoted to the next class without exams.
Uttar Pradesh - The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has decided to cancel the upcoming UP Board 10th exam due to the prevailing pandemic situation. UPMSP is likely to declare all pass for 29.94 lakh High School students for this year based on internal assessment. However, no formal announcement has been made regarding the evaluation criteria.
Himachal Pradesh - Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) also announced in the first week of May that the Board will promote the students based on internal assessment. However, the board will also take into account the assessment from pre-board and first and second term examination.
Haryana - The School Education Haryana (BSEH) also cancelled its 10th Board exams on 15th April. As per the guidelines set by the Haryana government, the result of the students will be assessed based on internal assessment. The date for the announcement of result has not been released yet.

Madhya Pradesh - The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) had also cancelled class 10th Board exams amid the rising COVID-19 cases. As per the latest announcement, the class 10 students will be evaluated based on their mid-term exams or pre-boards, unit tests, as well as internal assessment.
Odisha - Odisha’s Board of Secondary Education (BSE) has also cancelled the class tenth examinations following which the state Education Minister said that the students will be evaluated based on an ‘Objective criteria’. The said criteria, however, hasn’t been specified.
Jammu and Kashmir - Jammu and Kashmir School Education Board (JKBOSE) has cancelled the remaining JKBOSE class 10 board exams. The JKBOSE students will be promoted based on internal assessment and their performance in the board exams that have already been conducted during the academic year. The students will be evaluated based on the assignments and projects submitted as part of the school’s assessment along with marks obtained in the board exams.
Gujarat - Earlier, Gujarat Board also cancelled the class 10th exams. Therefore, the government has decided to give mass promotion to the students of class 10th. The decision was taken by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, following a massive surge in COVID-19 cases in the state along with a destructive Tauktae forecast that was reportedly factored in to take the mass promotion route for Class tenth students.
Tamil Nadu - The Government of Tamil Nadu has decided to promote all the students of class 10 to the next class without any examinations. As per reports, Palaniswami declared class 10th "all pass" this academic year on the backdrop of the Coronavirus pandemic. The state education board will now access students of class 10 based on their internal assessment.
Uttarkhand - The state government has cancelled the Uttarakhand board exam 2021 for class 10 amid rising COVID-19 cases. However, no evaluation criteria have been released by the board yet.
Maharashtra - Maharashtra Board SSC exams 2021 has been cancelled due to the surge in COVID -19 cases. The Maharashtra government is likely to decide on the evaluation criteria for SSC or class 10 students soon. A “fair and accurate” assessment criterion will be formulated after meetings with stakeholders, School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad had earlier said. The minister had said marks will be awarded to students based on ‘internal assessment’ or ‘objective criterion’.
CBSE - The Central Board also cancelled the class 10 board exams. It has announced the assessment criteria for the cancelled board exams. As part of the CBSE Class 10 assessment criteria, the students will be assessed out of a maximum of 100 marks for each subject. While 20 marks have to be submitted by the schools as internal assessment as they have been doing, the remaining 80 marks will be based on scores in periodic tests, half-yearly or mid-term exams and pre-board examinations.
List of States To Conduct the Class 10th Exams
West Bengal - As per the reports, the West Bengal exam for class 10 would be conducted later. Speaking on the same, WB Education Minister Bratya Basu stated that examinations would be conducted once the current COVID-19 crisis is contained. He did not share any decision on the cancellation of class 10 board exams or a tentative date.
Assam - Education Minister of Assam Ranoj Pegu announced on Monday and said that the decision on exams till 25th May. Earlier on 4th May, the Assam board had postponed the class 10th exams until further notice. All the candidates might get an option of appearing in only three subjects mentioned.
Karnataka - The Karnataka government has decided to postpone the Karnataka SSLC exams 2021. Karnataka SSLC examinations 2021 were scheduled to begin on 21st June in the state. The state government announced that they will release the revised schedule for the examination after the second wave of covid dies.
List of States That Have Declared Class 10th Result
Chhattisgarh - The Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE) has declared the class 10 result on 18th May in online mode. CGBSE announced the 10th board exam result on its official website - results.cg.nic.in. The authorities have released the result based on the internal assessment policy. Also, the students who have not obtained the minimum marks required or their assignment work is still pending will be awarded passing marks. If a student is not satisfied with the marks then they will be provided with an opportunity to appear for the board exams when the COVID-19 situation gets better.
Telangana - Directorate of Government Examinations, DGE Telangana has declared the TS SSC result on 21st May 2021. This year due to the pandemic the board could not conduct the class 10 Board exams in the state. The result will be declared based on internal assessment. Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allotted to him or her would be allowed to sit in an exam which might be conducted as and when the conditions become conducive.
