CBSE to allow Changes in Marksheets, Certificates: As per the latest update, Delhi High Court has directed CBSE Board to allow changes in the name and surname fields in the marksheets and certificates being issued by them to Class 10 and Class 12 students. CBSE Board has been asked to put in place a system that facilitates such requests from students easily. The order was passed by a bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan, which directed CBSE to allow changes in these crucial fields as far as admission process for further education is concerned.
Avoid Litigations On This Matter
Directing CBSE to allow change in name and surname fields of CBSE Board Exam Marksheets 2020, the court noted that many students and parents had to take up the legal route in order to get some relief on this front. This is a very common request and therefore the board should adhere to it directly through an internal system. The court also said that it is also not good to generate such litigation. "It may be good for the lawyers, but not for the institution," the bench added and suggested to the Board to provide a column or space in their forms which would allow students to make whatever changes they need to make.
Challenge of Identify Verification
The counsel representing CBSE Board, brought to the court’s notice the challenge of verification of identity for the board. The board argued that board cannot certify someone's identity and added that it only puts down in the certificate the information provided at the first instance. In response to this, the court noted that board is not expected to verify anyone’s identify but instead just base it on information furnished. Therefore, it shouldn’t matter how many times do they update the information in line with the proofs provided to them. As a way to showcase changes done in the certificate, the court said that CBSE can include the pervious details that are being changed in some corner or bottom of the certificate.
