DUSU Election 2019 Result Announced: The outcome of Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) 2019 elections has been announced in the afternoon today. The Community Hall of the Police Lines in Delhi's Kingsway Camp is where the counting of votes has concluded. The results saw ABVP candidates surpassing their opponents to emerge as winners for the positions of President, Vice President and Joint Secretary. The winner for the post of General Secretary is NSUI candidate - Ashish Lamba. The representatives are elected for a period of one year.
Earlier reports claimed that there was a close competition between the RSS affiliated ABVP and Congress' student wing NSUI for the position of Joint Secretary. The reports also claim that ABVP candidates are leading in all the four posts. The voter turnout this year was 39.9%, a noticeable decline from last year’s 44.46%.
This year, 16 candidates contested for the four positions out of which 4 are female. Akshit Dahiya, Pradeep Tanwar, Yogit Rathee, and Shivangi Kherwal contested from ABVP for the positions of president, vice-president, general secretary, and joint secretary respectively. While the representatives from NSUI included Chetna Tyagi for the post of president, Ankit Bharti for vice-president, Ashish Lamba for secretary and Abhishek Chaprana for joint secretary.
The individual college results have been declared yesterday. ABVP has claimed victory in 10 colleges and NSUI has claimed victory in 23 as per the data shared by Ruchi Gupta, National in-charge, NSUI. Last year, ABVP claimed three out of four posts while NSUI won the remainder in DUSU elections.
