The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) writes to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to release funds for 28 colleges under Delhi University. These DU colleges are either funded partially or fully by the Delhi government. The DUTA has raised concern over the stoppage of the funds as it will further affect the salaries, other reimbursements and day-to-day functioning of the colleges.
In addition, the stoppage of grants to the DU colleges has also affected student enrollment this year. DUTA has demanded that with respect to the EWS reservation, the government should at the earliest release funds for the additional posts that are to be created for the teaching and non-teaching staff.
Here is the list of few DU colleges that are fully funded by the Delhi Government are:
1. Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies
2. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College
3. Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College
4. Keshav Maha Vidyalaya
5. Maharaja Agrasen College
6. Bhaskara Charya College of Applied Science
7. Aditi Mahavidyalaya
8. Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education & Sports Science
The administrative forces, and DUTA says that as the seats under the EWS category have been increased, there is a need to increase the grant/funds as well. Colleges need funds for operational, infrastructural support.
In the letter, DUTA has mentioned that “You would agree that this action of denial of salaries to the teaching and non-teaching staff amounts to violation of basic human rights.”
Previously, in the month of June 2019, similar issue surfaced when the funds of these colleges were delayed. Both, DUTA and the state government are at the loggerheads and blaming each other over the matter. DUTA has requested Mr. Kejriwal to look into the matter at the earliest and provide a solution to prevent “further escalation” of the matter.
