EducationMinisterGoesLive Webinar: Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ shared some important updates with the Students today under the #EducationMinisterGoesLive Webinar. During his initial remarks, he recalled that last he had connected with students on 10th May i.e. before the examinations were held; but since then many things have been streamlined to manage education of students amid the pandemic. However, he also said that change is the norm of the day and that students should be ready to tackle the reformative changes that are being proposed as part of the New Education Policy 2020.

Education Minister Goes Live Webinar – Live Update @ 10:57 AM – On NEET 2021 Cancellation
The last three questions answered by Education Minister were about the NEET 2021 entrance exam, wherein students asked him about possibility of cancellation of the exam, on dates for NEET 2021 exam and mode of the exam.
Answering these questions, Mr Pokhriyal completely ruled out any possibility of cancellation of the medical entrance exam, saying that even during the peak pandemic situation in 2020, the NEET exam was held successfully in off-line mode for over 17 lakh aspirants. About dates and mode of NEET 2021 exams, the minister said that as of now the officials are trying to work out the modalities about the medical entrance exam and that soon details about dates and mode of the exam i.e. either online or offline mode will be conveyed to the students.
Giving example of last year, where JEE and NEET exams were postponed multiple times keeping in mind the safety and security of the students; Education Minister assured students that his ministry will take the final decision on the matter, keeping students and their security and well-being as its top priority.

Another student asked Education Minister that despite CBSE announcing the reduction in the overall syllabus for Class 10 and 12 students by 30%, there was still some confusion about the actual syllabus that is to be followed. In response to this, Mr Pokhriyal said that the new or revised syllabus for the CBSE board exam 2021 is already available on official website cbse.nic.in from where students can refer the same. He also asked teachers and school administrators to make students aware about the same.
Education Minister Goes Live Webinar – Live Update @ 10:39 AM – On Syllabus Reduction for NEET and JEE
The second question asked to Education Minister was about reduction of syllabus for competitive entrance exams such as JEE Main and NEET 2021 and also touched upon postponement of exams to ensure students get enough time to prepare for the same. Answering this question, Mr Pokhriyal said that the suggestion to reduce the syllabus for the competitive exams. Minister also assured students that if the situations persists, then due consideration and time would be given to the students. The suggestions have been duly noted.

One of the first questions of students that was taken up by Education Minister was about practical exams for CBSE 12th Exam 2021. In response to this, he said that as of now it is highly likely to that schools would reopen and which will allow students to undertake practical training and also take up practical exams. But, the final decision about holding of cancellation of CBSE Board Exam 2020 practical exam will be taken by the board soon and conveyed to the students.

Speaking to students, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ also recounted the major achievements attained by the country in the last year despite the challenging circumstances of the COVID-19. He said that CBSE Board Exams 2020 were held amid the pandemic along with competitive entrance exams such as JEE Main and NEET 2020. In fact, he said that NEET 2020 where as many as 17 lakh students had participated is one of a kind and the largest public exminations conducted by any country during the pandemic.

In his address to students and parents, Mr Pokhriyal also touched upon the topic of school reopening. He informed that as many as 17 states have reopened the schools across the country. He said that despite reopening of school the attendance has remained low owing to the pandemic; but he expressed confidence that soon the class-room based learning would resume in full-force.

Education Minister started his address by commending students, teachers, educators and administrators for putting in all the necessary efforts to ensure continued learning during the pandemic. He also touched upon the concept of the pen pal, reading habit and how PM Narendra Modi has been working constantly to improve the communication with students.
How to Ask Questions?
Ever since the announcement of the webinar, Education Minister has asked students to submit their queries and questions which they might have about the pandemic situation and the exam cycle that is likely to be followed this year due to it. Mr Pokhriyal invited students to share their queries via social media platforms using #EducationMinisterGoesLive on Facebook and Twitter. Many students and parents, over the past few days have submitted their questions for the same.
Type of Questions & Queries Asked
A major part of the queries submitted by the students is about the upcoming Board Exams. Several students have asked Educcation Minister about the government’s plans to CBSE and other board exams, and competitive exams including JEE Main 2021 and NEET 2021. Some students and parents have also urged the Minister to postpone the board exams across the country until May 2021 keeping in mind the prevailing situation and the pending syllabus that is yet to be completed. Another common thread of questions that has been raised by students include ones on the engineering entrance exam syllabus, or JEE Main syllabus, NEET 2021 exam pattern and board exam dates.
