Fee Hike in Karnataka Medical Colleges: From the next session, it will be costly to pursue medical and dental courses from the private colleges of Karnataka as there has been a hike of 15 % in the fees. The decision has been taken but not brought forward for further discussion owing to the upcoming parlimentary elections.
The state government of Karnataka has decided to hike the fee in the private medical colleges by 15% from the next academic session. The decision was taken by E. Tukaram, the medical education minister of the state government of Karnataka, in a meeting recently. The new fee rates will be applicable for all institutional quota seat and government quota seats. The hike is also applicable to minority institutions.
New Fees post Hike
New fees for clinical postgraduate courses will be Rs. 5,81,900 which used to be Rs. 5,06,000. With 15 % hike in the fee, the amount of fees will range from Rs. 72,737 to Rs. 5.81 lakh for government quota. For institutional quota, the fees will range from Rs 1.09 lakh to Rs 8.72 lakh. Fee for Dental degree and diploma courses will be Rs. 2.97 lakh for government quota and Rs. 4.65 lakh for institutional quota.
Reason behind Fee Hike
The fee hike was supported by M.R. Jayaram who is the president of the Karnataka Professional Colleges’ Foundation (KPCF). He said that there is a need to hike the fee in order to maintain the quality of education and for providing better infrastructure.
Mr. Jayram said, "If we have to provide good quality education which is par excellence, besides improving our infrastructure, we also need to invest heavily on research”. The fee for dental seats in government college has not changed.
